Welcome to our classroom blog!

Tuesday, August 16th, 2011

We will stay connected through this site! And hopefully, we will use this to get to know each other a little better! The first thing I’d like to know is everything YOU know about blogging! Use the comments section to enlighten me!

Starting off one of our last weeks together!

Sunday, May 8th, 2011

Today while I am at home recuping, I expect you will be busy! Busy doing what, you say?!?

Well, if you are in Multimedia Design, you should be finishing up your research. I would like to see your pictures and facts about each stop on  your trip during class on Tuesday so that we can begin to storyboard on Wednesday.

If you’re in Commerce Communication or Creative Business Media, use this website to choose a career you’d like to apply for to become a cast member with Disney: http://disney.go.com/disneycareers/wdwcareers/hourly/index.html. Choose one job opening, read the description of the one you choose and write 3 paragraphs MLA style as to why you would be a nice “fit” into this particular opening!

Our next Project

Monday, April 18th, 2011

so…I hope everyone had the opportunity to do a practice podcast and yes, I know we had a lot of background noise. What I had hoped we’d get from that exercise was a little experience so we can make our next podcast an outstanding one! Here’s our next project! I want you to think of 10 people who have really meant a lot to you during your growing up years. Think of the things that make these people so special to you, and then choose one that you can remember the most experiences that you have shared. We will begin on Tuesday to create a bubbl.us about this one person, it can be the person you wrote about before. We will then write an essay about this person. When we get all our essays compiled, we will create a book to be published by us to be shared around our city! One of our former English teachers at AHS, Joann Ellis, began this tradition with her students and was hoping someone would continue the tradition after she retired! To my knowledge, nobody else has picked up this tradition, so guess what! Commerce Communications is going to carry the torch! After we finish, you will pick highlights from your paper to use to create a podcast about this person. Let’s take this opportunity to do our best work describing this person who has meant so much to you!

Speaking of iphone…

While reading this article, I found something a little disturbing. Read Geotagging Risks and Dangers for yourself and let me know how comfortable you feel about this situation!  Comment below with a paragraph letting me know your thoughts!

What kind of technology is hot this Christmas?

Wednesday, December 1st, 2010

What type of technology is going to be hard to find this Christmas season? Are you asking Santa for any particular type of technology? Why or why not?

What exactly is Veteran’s Day?

Sunday, November 7th, 2010

Use a reputable website to research “Veteran’s Day”. In a clean Word document inside Citrix, find the following answers:

1. What is “Veteran’s Day”?

2. When did it become a holiday?

3. Why did it become a holiday?

4. Who declared it a holiday?

5. How is Veteran’s Day celebrated?

In essay form, answer each question in paragraph form. Save often and name the document Veteran’s Day

The Princess and the Frog

Sunday, November 7th, 2010

Today I want us to write about some of the character traits of the characters we met in Disney’s The Princess and the Frog. First, comment on our blog to tell me which character you associated with most. Second, in your comment, let me know if you would have felt most “at home” at Tiana’s home, with Mama Odie, or at the mansion? Then we’ll set up your own blog and you will write more on your blog for all of us to read and comment on!

What are you reading?

Thursday, October 14th, 2010

We’re going to read from www.readbookonline.net a short story by Nathaniel Hawthorne. I have given you an index card to use for words that you might not understand. Please record those words and we’ll all work with them later. For now, comment on this blog posting and let me know what story you decided to read!

Think, Think, Think!!

Monday, March 29th, 2010

Everybody is telling me that you don’t remember your topic, it’s posted on one of our earlier blogs…Internet Safety!! Check down there to see what your topic was! Also, the cards you signed are in the top left hand drawer in my desk! So much for critical thinking, huh?

Working in Keynote!

Monday, March 29th, 2010

We will start our presentation on Internet Safety. We will begin our research on your chosen topic by learning/reviewing the Alabama Virtual Library and how it should be used for scholarly research. As long as you are logged in on an Albertville City Schools computer, you won’t need the library card to use the AVL. As we discussed in class, some research might have to be done outside the Albertville City Schools network due to the filter we have on our Internet at school. Here are the guidelines on research for this project:

  • Create a folder in your “My Documents” folder called “Internet Safety Research”
  • Save all research in this folder
  • Gather research from at least 4 different sources. Hopefully, two of these can come from the AVL
  • Use only current research
  • BE SURE to record sources so that they can be cited properly
  • If you choose to use graphics in your research presentation, record the source of each picture/graphic used
  • Presentation should be suited to an audience of middle school students

We will watch the tutorial from Apple’s site about using Keynote. I think you will enjoy using it because it is not PowerPoint! I believe you will agree with me that PowerPoint is the most overused program that has ever been!! Keynote accomplishes the same end – a multimedia presentation – but has more exciting animations, designs, and transitions. Enjoy using this presentation program and remember that this will give you another type of software to add to your resume!!
